More about Your Candidates!
Nannette Walker
Governing Board Member, Oroville Union High School District
Occupation: Retired Teacher
I was born and raised in Northern California. I graduated from Yuba City High School and began college at Yuba College. I met and married my husband of 48 years. I received my degrees in Political Science and History from Chico State University. My husband was a second-generation commercial beekeeper and I worked side-by-side with him for 20 years. I learned to drive trucks, forklifts, and tractors as well as work the bees. I went back to school and earned a teaching credential and was a history teacher for Oroville High School and then Las Plumas High School for 25 years. I retired in 2010 and have been on the OUHSD Board of Trustees since 2014.
Margaret "Peggy" Ellis
Candidate for Board Member, Oroville Union High School District
Occupation: Retired Teacher
My name is Margaret Ellis, but my friends call me Peggy. I have been a resident of the Oroville area, living in Concow since 1996. I grew up locally and am an alumni of Gridley High School. After earning my teaching credential from Chico State University, I returned to Gridley High and taught there for the better part of 20 years. I raised six children who all graduated from Gridley High and I had the privilege of teaching two of them. I retired from teaching in 2016 and now work for Butte County Child Support Division. Working with young people through teaching provided me with a lifetime of rewarding experiences and it would be an honor to be able to give back by supporting students of OUHSD with what they need to become happy and productive members of the local community. As a former teacher who put three sons and three stepdaughters through the public school system, I believe I have the qualifications to meet the needs of our students and prepare them for a successful future. If elected, I will work with community stakeholders to ensure that our students have a broad range of options for their education including access to A-G courses, AP and honors courses, and vocational training through CTE courses; all of which will be taken on campuses that provide safe and nurturing environments for learning.
Bonnie L. King
Governing Board Member, Oroville Union High School District
Occupation: Speech Therapist
My name is Bonnie King and I am an incumbent on the Oroville High School Board of Trustees. I have been a resident of Oroville for most of my life. All four of my children have graduated from Las Plumas or Oroville High and I am an active promoter of Oroville Schools and our wonderful community.
My priorities while on the School Board have been the safety of our students, smaller class sizes, efficient use of the school budget and providing expanded and flexible classes for all students.
I believe I have been a fair and passionate board member. I would appreciate your vote.
